The X - 5 Squared is Here!

The X – 5 has been the fastest car on the track for three years now, but we've never stopped thinking about ways to make it better. We here at X Factory have received tremendous input from our Team drivers and Family members: people have sent in seeming countless ideas to improve durability and performance. Many possible improvements have been designed and tested: changes to the chassis, driveline, body, and so on... all come together to create such an improved car we had to release the evolved kit as a new car. X Factory is proud to show off: The X – 5 Squared!

DESIGN CHANGES IN THE CHASSIS

Colored in blue and labeled in the C.A.D. images below are the 15 changes to the X - 5 chassis, all done to make the car easier to build, maintain, and more durable:

NEW MATERIAL AND MOLDING PROCESS

Besides the physical changes to the mold, X Factory has spent much time and money working with a new molding company in Los Angeles to produce the Squared chassis. This company has made parts for various R/C companies for more than 20 years, utilizing a much newer, better press with greatly improved molding techniques. We have also begun using a new graphite material that provides almost the same stiffness while making parts that are considerably less brittle.

With the original X - 5, X Factory put the emphasis on chassis rigidity because we think it makes the best race car, and frankly we went a bit overboard there. The new material and parts are still very stiff and fast, but the Team did not break a single X Factory part the entire week in Albuquerque on an unforgiving, hard-as-concrete track.

THE X FACTORY FAMILY

We thank several Family members for a number of the changes. In particular, the re-enforcements around the motor mount came from a Family member in Japan, who also suggested removal of material from the tunnel under the motor for easier pinion/spur adjustment. A Family member in California suggested the added material at the outside of the battery slots to help with a previous cracking problem.

Most R/C companies have in-house engineering staffs and resist outside suggestions. We know that no in-house staff can possibly equal the knowledge and experience of racers all over the world, and rely on the Family to improve all our products.

THE SQUARED BODY

The new X – 5 Squared body flattens and squares off some of the corners and the roof for a sleeker-but-aggressive new look. The new body has extra room for large brushless ESCs, including a cooling vent and four additional cut-outs to cool the motor & ESC.

First to mount the receiver at the right rear was Greg Hodapp back in ’05. A number of Family members have tried making new battery slots to move the weight back but Greg found that was too much. He moved the receiver back and it worked out well, especially for others who used the larger, heavier brushless ESCs. So the Squared features two receiver mounting positions and the new body has dimples indicating both antenna locations.

"PRO-PROTO" COVERS

Everyone has seen photos of pro drivers running prototype parts, usually machined from white Delrin. Because of all the Family
involvement in our design process, we decided to give you new Pro Proto covers for the Squared chassis. The white top cover, diff cover, and bottom cover give your X – 5 Squared a professional dialed look -- They’re included in all Kits, they’re part of the Higher Power Upgrade Kit, and they’re sold separately as parts.

NEW VINYL DECAL SHEETS!

The X – 5 Squared features all new decals - multi-color sheets with a bright red 2 to show off your Higher Power ride. The sheets feature improved X Factory logos, too. Decals can seem like such small things, but we here at X Factory are really proud of the new ones. They really stand out better on any paint scheme and make your ride look that much more dialed!
