The Problem: Losi’s method of attaching the caster block to the front control arm works well
but fails to spread shock loading equally to the front and rear of the control arm. The caster
block is not firmly attached to the front of the arm at all because it pivots on the king pin
screw. Thus, all the force of any bump, much less a crash, is transmitted entirely into the back
part of the arm, and that’s where they break. The Fix: Attach the caster block to the front of the arm too, so force is spread equally between the front and rear. We thank Jesse Robbers for figuring out this solution and designing the first ones. By threading the screws into the caster block and allowing the block to pivot on the control arm, half of the force is transmitted to the front of the arm through the head of the screw, while the rest of the force goes into the rear of the arm from the caster block pushing against it. Nobody can guarantee anything in racing with plastic cars, but Jesse experienced zero broken arms
through practice, qualifying, and the mains of two major races, and Paul ran the entire Mod Nats
without a failure. It’s far cheaper than a set of Delrin arms, and you keep the stiffness of the Losi Graphite material. Finally, if you ever break an arm, just take the screws out and put them on the new one – no additional cost! Fits X - 5, xx-4, and xxx-4. |
