FUN WITH THE FAMILY AT RC MADNESS

The Weekend of August 3-5 saw Paul and Chazz travel to R/C Madness in Enfield, Connecticut for the 4th Annual Short Course National Championship along with Team members Mike “Lights Out” Aliberti and Chris Cristo and several Family members. A couple of the newer Family members purchased their SCX – 60CFs just a day or two before the race and built them at the track. One, Bill G, make the stock class A with his brand-new truck! Team driver Mark Smyka was there too, but he did not run 2WD SC because he was helping with the track and race organization.

The race was washed out with a monsoon Sunday afternoon. It rained a bit off and on and looked threatening most of the day, the lower mains had been run with the top races left to go when the sky opened up and the rest of the program was cancelled. Results were awarded based on qualifying, and Paul took third, Family member John Cravotta 4th, and “Lights Out” was 5th.

Paul ran Goosebumps for round two of qualifying, and that was the right choice as he lowered the round one TQ by 5 seconds! Mike Aliberti ran Q2 two races after Paul and took second in the round, making a small mistake on the last lap when the announcer had him on pace to finish 0.2 seconds ahead of Paul. John Cravotta was also running right with Paul’s time in H2 until a mistake on his last lap cost him dearly...

In heat three they decided not to water the track, and we all chose the wrong tires. The track was faster than the first two rounds, and two guys beat Paul’s TQ time from round two. With three drivers grouped near the top we went home Saturday night confident we could do very well in Sunday’s main. Then the monsoon hit.

The next big race in the north east is the J Concepts race at R/C Excitement in Fitchburg, Mass in early October. We all plan to attend, and hope to see you there.

Paul and I are leaving This Thursday Aug 9 for L.A. and the ROAR Nationals at West Coast R/C. We look forward to meeting the western branch of the Family!
